Achievements
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has been providing services to the people including total sanitation with a view to make Bhubaneswar both a lovable and livable city.
City bus services in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar got its efficient city bus service in line with the metro cities of the country from 10th October, 2010. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Orissa Shri Naveen Patnaik formally launched the plying of a fleet of buses at Kalinga Stadium at Bhubaneswar.
A MoU was signed earlier between Bhubaneswar-Puri Road Transport Service Limited (BPTSL) and Dream Team-Sahara (DTS) for operationalising bus services in Bhubaneswar and Puri. A total of 100 buses are pressed into service in Bhubaneswar and 25 town buses would operate in Puri under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The city bus service is initiated under the PPP mode between BPTSL and DTS. The equity holders of the company are
BMC (40%),
BDA (40%),
OSRTC (10%),
PKDA (5%) and
Puri Municipality (5%).
The public transport system in the State capital got a facelift with the flagging off the much-awaited city bus service.
Drive for Beautification of City

Major Walls of the City have been adorned with paintings depicting Orissa’s cultural & traditional history, art, festivals, rituals, village life, tribal art, folk tales and portraits. Many Corporate houses & banks have volunteered to come forward & joined hands with BMC in beautifying the city walls. Efforts are on to identify the walls at few more significant places for painting with the assistance of corporate houses.
Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell.
- Construction of individual houses along with infrastructures like Community Centre, Road, Street lighting etc taken up under JNNURM(BSUP) in 18 slums. Utilisation of the 100% funds received.
- Satisfactory implementation of various self employment, wage employment skill upgradation,Community development and social security schemes.
Sanitation.
- Preparation of Detailed project Report (DPR) for Solid Waste Processing facility and land fill site at Bhuasuni completed.
- Road to the site constructed. Boundary wall work under progress.
- Tender document for selection of the PPP partner finalised. Tender to be issued before 31st March’2011.
- Privatisation of sanitation work in order to enhance the quality of sanitation service.
- Express cleaning service of Hotels, Restaurants and Nursing homes and special cleaning service of major markets.
Nationally recognised for vending zones
In an innovative strategy to give a facelift to the city's looks without upsetting the livelihood of poor roadside vendors, BMC created over 2,000 vending zones at 30 prime locations in city. This initiative has earned accolades at the national level and the state government has been invited to share its success story on rehabilitation of street vendors at a national forum on March 4.
Regional Centre for Urban & Environmental Studies (RCUES) Lucknow, requested BMC to share the strategy adopted by it on vending zones with the administrative bodies of other cities in the country during a national workshop in Patna. RCUES, a nodal resources centre under the Union ministry of urban development for training and research on urban governance, will conduct the workshop for guiding the cities on the Union government's vending zone policy.
Nagarbandhu Samman

A new scheme formulated by BMC in association with Plant Lovers Association, Orissa Environmental Society & ICLEI-SA. Nominations are invited across the city from individuals & urbanisations who have contributed towards cleaning & greening Bhubaneswar. Spot visits are made to select the best nominations. This has proved to be a good way of encouraging active and positive involvement of citizens.
Parks and Recreation

For beautification of city & recreation of the people in Colony, 24 nos. of Colony Parks have been taken up by BMC with initial investment of 90% of the project & the rest 10% share by Resident Welfare Association.
Stretches along roads and important squares are identified and assigned to various institutions for development of green patches & good lighting.
Restoration and development of Bindusagar Lake periphery
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken an ambitious project to renovate and beautify the banks of the Bindu Sagar Lake, the largest water body in the capital. Considered as a holy tank, Bindu Sagar is bordered by 7,000 temples including the Lingaraj temple. Thousands of people take dip every day before visiting the nearby temples.
One side of the lake has Ekamra Vana, an herbal garden developed by the forest department. For the other three sides, BMC has planned beautiful embankments and pathways with matching light sources made of laterite stone. Beautification will be in harmony with the original design. Apart from the embankments and pathways BMC have also planned for proper cleaning and aeration of the water of the tank.
E – Services
The e-service centres of the BMC are functional from the Local Self Government Day. In this initiative people can get the services provided by the civic body at a click of the mouse from their personal computers. A special purpose vehicle in form of the website giving a plethora of eServices, etc
